If you’re an OLED enthusiast like me, then you’ll be excited by the prospect of a new glossy WOLED monitor. The latest monitor launch from ASUS, the ASUS ROG STRIX XG27AQDMG, safely secures its place within the ongoing glossy vs non-glossy monitor debate, perhaps ending it once and for all. This monitor is the newest member of the ROG STRIX series and presents itself as the world’s first glossy WOLED monitor. Let’s find out more!

Announced earlier this year, the monitor was recently released in China, however, it has not yet arrived in other areas across the globe. This highly anticipated monitor is sure to widen the gap within the glossy vs non-glossy debate, and its impressive set of specs will secure its place as one of the most exciting WOLED monitors released this year.

Features and specs of the XG27AQDMG

The ASUS ROG STRIX features a 2560×1440 resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate. On top of this, it offers a 20% brighter image, low motion blur, and crystal clear text. The monitor offers a highly-efficient, custom built-in heatsink, that demonstrates an advanced airflow design. In addition to this, it incorporates anti-flicker technology and a 3.0ms response time, making it the perfect monitor for highly demanding gaming titles.

Now, for the feature everyone has been waiting for, the glossy finish. As previously mentioned, the ASUS ROD STRIX is the world’s first glossy WOLED monitor. This type of monitor allows for a more vivid color display, showcasing brighter whites, deeper darks, and richer colors, for an overall crisp finish that challenges the color display of its non-glossy counterparts.

Glossy monitors have been featured in ASUS’s lineup before, however, the reason this monitor is so exciting and the first of its kind is due to its WOLED display. WOLED monitors utilize an OLED layer that emits white light, which will then pass through color filters to display green, red, and blue. This paired with the glossy finish on the monitor is sure to create a vibrant finish while gaming.

Release date & pricing

The ASUS ROG STRIX XG27AQDMG is currently only available for purchase in China. ASUS announced the 27-inch glossy gaming monitor back in February 2024, the product was then later released in March 2024 in China. There has been no official confirmation from ASUS themselves as to when the monitor will be released in other areas across the globe.

However, the product is shown on the official ASUS website. There is no option to purchase the product but there is a button labeled notify me. With this option, you can be notified about updates on the product and when it may be released.

Unlike the release date, the price of the ASUS ROG STRIX XG27AQDMG has been shared. The product is currently being sold in China for 4999 RMB (619 USD), however, this can change from retailer to retailer. This price is seemingly cheap when compared to its predecessor, the PG27AQDM, which was released last year around the $750 mark. This is due to glossy screens actually being easier to manufacture.

Glossy vs non-glossy monitor?

The ongoing debate between glossy and non-glossy monitors has divided gamers for some time. The reflective glass that is used to give the product that glossy finish is beneficial when it comes to the overall color display of the monitor. However, this type of display can have its downsides, leading customers to opt for a non-glossy option. Glossy monitors can be highly reflective and any light shining on them will lead to a glare on the screen, meaning gaming can be interrupted.

Due to this polarising factor, many believe a matte finish to be the better option for gaming monitors. However, if you can ensure that you’ll be in a glare-free environment, you’ll be able to enjoy the vivid colors of the glossy screen with no issue.
