Best Budget Canon Printer
Specifications
  • Printer Output: Color
  • Printer Type: InkJet
  • Connectivity Technology: USB, WiFi Direct
  • Duplex Printing : Yes
What We Think

Cheap and cheerful, this competent Canon printer is well worth its low price.

Reasons to Buy
  • Good print speeds – at 10 pages per minute for color documents, the TR8620a is a great option for office productivity.
  • Great color quality – this InkJet printer manages to recreate colors with the depth and vibrance they deserve.
Reasons to Avoid
  • Flimsy build quality – we’re unimpressed with the design of the TR8620a, where most of the savings seem to have been found.

For a sterling print solution under $200, the Canon Pixma TR8620a is the ideal solution. If you want a highly competent InkJet printer without paying top dollar for it, then this unit is your best bet.

With a print size of up to 8.5″ x 11.7″, the TR8620a still enables you to print large-scale photos, as well as color documents. With a print speed of 10 pages per minute for documents, you can rest assured that they will be delivered quickly and efficiently – and with great color accuracy too. The multipurpose printer comes with a built-in copier and document scanner for all your administrative printing needs.

What lets the TR8620a down, however, is the build quality. Notably flimsy, you can tell that this is a budget printer. If you prioritize price over craftsmanship, this is still one of Canon’s best Pixma printers for sheer price-to-performance.

Best Canon Photo Printer
  • Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-1000
Specifications
  • Printer Output: Color
  • Printer Type: InkJet
  • Connectivity Technology: USB, WiFi Direct
  • Duplex Printing: No
What We Think

This fearsomely capable printer is an incredible print solution for detailed photos and multimedia prints.

Reasons to Buy
  • Incredible color accuracy – with a 12-color ink system, this Canon printer is capable of supreme depth and detail.
  • Large print format – at 17″ x 22″ maximum print size, with newly-added roll-feed support, the PRO-1000 can create huge, detailed images.
Reasons to Avoid
  • Slow print speeds – the PRO-1000 is notably poor for fast prints, making it less suited to busy photo printing environments.

If you’re looking to decorate your home with exceptional art prints or photos, then consider the Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-1000. This wide-format Canon photo printer boasts some of the best color reproduction on the market, and is an asset to households and businesses alike.

Utilizing a 12-color ink system, the PRO-1000 is a superb print solution for those needing color depth and vibrance in their prints. It features anti-clogging technology and a tubular ink delivery system that makes your working time more efficient. These two features minimize the chance of clogging and give you faster printing speeds, increasing your overall productivity. Additionally, it has an air-feeding system that keeps your paper aligned inside, making for more accurate ink placement.

That said, at a paltry 5 prints per minute for color images, the PRO-1000 is a notably slow printer. If you are willing to make the tradeoff between speed and quality, then this is the best InkJet printer for you.

Best Canon Laser Printer
Specifications
  • Printer Output: Color
  • Printer Type: Laser
  • Connectivity Technology: USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth WiFi Direct
  • Duplex Printing?: Yes
What We Think

For bulk-printing documents, the MF753Cdw is a tremendous asset for offices or homes.

Reasons to Buy
  • Fast and efficient – with fast print speeds and low running costs, this printer is well worth the upfront cost.
  • Reliable – rated for over 4,000 prints per month, the MF753Cdw is a productivity powerhouse.
Reasons to Avoid
  • Bulky – the MF753Cdw isn’t as compact as other Canon printers, and you may struggle to house it.

Color laser printers are terrific options for administrative roles, both home and business, and the Canon imageCLASS Mf753Cdw exemplifies this. With a monthly duty cycle of 4,000 prints per month, this highly productive printer allows you to print reams of documents with ease.

The MF753Cdw can print at speeds of up to 35 pages per minute, allowing you to print bulk volumes of documents in less time. In terms of automation, the printer has a lot to offer, with automatic document feeding and auto duplexing for easy double-sided printing. The high-yield toner means that it’ll take you a while before needing to order replacements. Being an all-in-one printer, the imageCLASS MF753Cdw can copy, scan, and even fax your documents, so you don’t have to buy separate devices for these jobs. The main paper tray can take up to 250 sheets, but there’s also a secondary 50-sheet tray for specialty paper – and you can equip the printer with another 550-sheet tray to expand its total capacity to up to 850 sheets.

All that paper capacity comes at the cost of convenience, however: the MF753Cdw is a notably cumbersome model, especially compared to other printers on this list. But for unrivaled productivity, this printer deserves its spot on our list.

Best Canon Pixma Printer
Specifications
  • Printer Output: Color
  • Printer Type: InkJet
  • Connectivity Technology: USB, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth
  • Duplex Printing: No
What We Think

One of our favorite printers, the Pro-200 manages to strike an excellent balance between quality and affordability.

Reasons to Buy
  • Detailed and fast prints – thanks to a unique color InkJet system, the Pro-200’s results are always stunning.
  • Efficient – the ink economy and cost-per-print are both low with this efficient printer.
Reasons to Avoid
  • No auto-duplexing – though this would be a non-issue in photo printers, the lack of double-sided documents is a mark against the Pro-200.

Last, but by no means least, is the Canon Pixma Pro-200, our favorite of Canon’s Pixma range of multimedia printers. Capable of all manner of incredible creations, from standard color documents to greeting cards, this printer is as versatile as it is compact.

You can print on paper up to 13” x 39”, with a resolution of 4800 x 2400 DPI – making this printer a top choice for graphic design. With a rear tray that can accommodate cardstock and other thick media, the PRO-200 is great for high-quality designs on any surface. Prints are rendered quickly, and thanks to an 8-color ink system, always with exceptional color detail and vibrance. To top it all off, you have a gamut of connectivity options: from convenient options like Apple AirPrint through to smart speakers.

That said, if you need the Pro-200 for printing documents, the one inefficiency of the printer rears its head. With no auto-duplexing, you’ll burn through paper quicker than usual. It’s a small flaw, and it doesn’t impede the Pro-200 from being our best Canon Pixma printer.

Features and Considerations

Though most Canon printers are well worth the money, here are some things to consider before buying one.

Ink Economy

If you are looking to run a cost-effective printer, the best way to measure that is via the cost-per-page statistics – the average cost of ink and paper for every sheet printed – listed with the product. This is measured in cents rather than dollars, thankfully, but make sure that you aren’t having to print constantly on an inefficient printer. Ink economy also refers to how efficiently the printer uses the ink that you provide, with minimal waste – another core consideration.

Connectivity

Most Canon printers have a versatile array of connectivity options – with even older models supporting some form of wireless of Bluetooth printing. Depending on how you specifically need to print, double-check your printer’s listed compatibility. If you don’t know the best means of printing from your device, universal cloud services such as Google Drive or Mopria are a good place to start.

Print Speed

We don’t place too much stock in print speed, as it’s not an exact science: a printer listing 15 pages per minute for documents is always going to have a slower average speed for photos. That said, some printers are notably slow, which can affect businesses or high-volume prints. Factor your own needs in before buying.

Printer Size

If space is a concern in your house or office, you should check the dimensions of the printer you’re buying. While most card printers can fit on desks, some are bulkier and heavier than others, especially those with accommodating media trays. Make sure you have the space before purchasing.

Are Canon Printers the Best Printers?

Canon are one of the most reliable brands for printers: offering a wide range of products that all match or surpass a high quality threshold. Especially for photo printing, we love their InkJet printers – catering to photographers with top-quality results. That said, there are some pitfalls to Canon’s brand. We find that their printers are often more expensive than equivalent Epson printers, and the overall ink economy can vary from model to model.

As with many aspects of printing, it comes down to personal preference. Our ranking of the best printers highlights an array of products with different use cases, Canon printers among them, so consider your needs rather than an empirical “best” title.
